Automotive

Major changes are happening in the automotive industry. Some of these are autonomous driving, shared vehicles, connected vehicles (Iot) and the shift to renewable fuels. Two of these fuels are hydrogen and electricity. With both of these fuels an electric motor is used to drive the vehicle.

Despite these fuels being renewable, it doesn’t mean they are free nor are they available everywhere at any given time. They are so called ‘scarce’ goods, windmills and solar panels aren’t free either.

Therefore it is of great importance to use the energy in the most economical way possible. A large part of the energy consumption of a car lies in the consumption of the electric motor.

By adding one or more gears, SmeshGear allows the electric motor to operate in an efficient area for a greater amount of time. This reduces the energy consumption of a vehicle.

Transport en logistiek

Just like in the automotive branche, changes are taking place in the transport and logistics branche. Changing legislation is one of the main drivers for the switch to renewable fuels in the transport and logistics sector.

Because vehicles in this sector are used for business, it is all the more important to ensure that this is done in a financially attractive manner. In a practical sense, this means that the cost per kilometer of a vehicle on renewable fuels must in any case be close to that of a vehicle on fossil fuels.

Smesh has therefore developed the Smesh-E-Axle in collaboration with a number of partners. This powertrain has been developed in such a way that the desired performance can be achieved with minimal energy consumption. Shifting gears makes an oversized engine a thing of the past. From 49 km/h to 80 km/h there is no loss of efficiency in the gears and once the vehicle is at cruising speed, one of the two electric motors can even be switched off. The remaining motor must then deliver more work, so that it runs more efficiently. For more information see www.smesh-e-axle.com.

Industrie

We also see changes happening in the industrial, construction and agricultural branch. These branches are all expected to operate in an increasingly sustainable manner. This almost always means that an electric motor will be used instead of a diesel engine.

Legislation and tenders, among other things, accelerate this process. The addition of Smesh Gear to a machine or vehicle ensures that construction costs are lower and that a comparable deployment as with a diesel comes into view. The Smesh Gear does this by making more efficient use of energy, increasing torque and broadening the speed range. The striking example of this is www.e-ox.nl

In this agricultural vehicle, a Smesh Gear has been applied to each wheel so that the tractor has both a high torque at low revs and a ”high” top speed.
